Dolphin & Whales Watching
Dolphing Watching As soon as we have encountered a suitable Group of dolphins that does not show any signs of distress, we will prepare everything for your swimming experience. We have mask and snorkel for you to observe the dolphins underwater. There are a few rules to make swimming with dolphins pleasant for both you and the dolphin:

  • Wait for our OK before you enter the water
  • Try to move as soundlessly as possible when in the water
  • Don’t try to go after the dolphins or touch them
  • Always follow the crews advice

  • You might like to look down while your swimming. The dolphins often pass right underneath you. If you listen closely you might also hear the dolhins’ squeaking sounds. Enjoy your experience! Swimming with dolphins is possible with these species:
Bottlenose dolphin, Atlantic spotted dolphin, Common dolphin, Risso’s dolphin, Striped dolphin

    Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking on MadeiraFor some on land excitement Madeira offers great on and off road cycling.  We transport our mountain bikes by car to Camacha (a high point to the SE end of the island) and we cycle downhill to Machico, some 35 kms away. The journey takes us via some excellent low difficulty trail roads, alongside beautiful levadas to finish by the beach. We stop for breaks at local cafe bars.

    Windsurfing

WindsurfMadeira is a great spot for windsurfing. In the summer months, Northerly to North-easterly trade winds blow force 5 with pretty good consistency. The wind is stronger in late summer. As the island is mountainous, the wind does not sweep over, but more around the island creating varied wind force depending on the beach. If it is cloudy, the wind disappears. In the winter months, the wind can be up to force 8 and changes rapidly. The windsurfing weather in Madeira during the winter is similar to that in the UK and is on a similar storm path. Riding in the winter months is for the more experienced and may involve lots of drive time between beaches to grab the perfect waves. Some good beaches include : Canico, Funchal and Achadas da Cruz. You can also ride at Paul do Mar, Canical and Cabo Giroa. As the weather is still quite mild in the winter, Madeira is a great place to get some waves in without freezing your bum off!
