Kayaking |

kayaking along the south west coastline of Madeira, leaving from Arco
da Calheta and exploring the coastal villages along to Ponta do
Sol. Fantastic views from the sea of the banana plantations
and
the spectacular volcanic rock formations. The kayaks are
Malibu
2XL crafts (2 man) with comfortable padded seats. Life
jackets
are provided. A back up speed boat accompanies all journeys
for
support and refreshments.

such as: Ponta do Pargo, for its lighthouse and spectacular view;
Santana along the north coast, characterised by its small thatched
triangular houses; Monte, a small village perched in the hills above
Funchal, renowned for its cathedral and the stunning 15 acre gardens at
the ‘Quinta do Monte; and of course to Funchal, the buzzing
cosmopolitan capital of the island.

Biking |
 For
some on land excitement Madeira offers great on and off road
cycling. We transport our mountain bikes by car to Camacha (a
high point to the SE end of the island) and we cycle downhill to
Machico, some 35 kms away. The journey takes us via some excellent low
difficulty trail roads, alongside beautiful levadas to finish by the
beach. We stop for breaks at local cafe bars.

 Madeira
is renowned for the lengths of narrow canals (levadas), channelled
hundreds of years ago to carry water to irrigate the island. Walking
along the levada between Arco da Calheta and Ponta do Pargo offers a
wonderful way of seeing the completely unspoilt inland areas of Madeira
with its luxuriant vegetation set amongst mountains and deep valleys,
but always with a view of the Atlantic Ocean. The day long hike takes a
leisurely pace with plently of breaks and photo opportunities along the
way.

stopping to snorkel at various points along the way.
